You don't say which abc app. you're using - the ones I'm familiar with are the commandline-abc-to postscript converters; in which context, you could look at abcm2ps's ability to specify a (limited numebr of) character sets.
"abcm2ps -L 5 <filename.abc>", for instance, gets you Latin5, ISO-8859-5, which is at least what the ISO people call "Cyrillic".

Or if you're familiar with TeX, you could try looking at abc2mtex.

Character set handling in ABC all seems a bit ad hoc, so far. One day, all this will be unicode. Maybe.
