Hi :)

> But there's also another reason why I've kept such a low profile for this message board, I've been afraid people would see it as a competition to the abcusers maillist. However, recently somebody on the list suggested a message board would be more suitable than a maillist, so here it is.

> Personally I think a list and a board should complement each other rather than compete. The message board is the forum for more permanent posts - the ones people keep going back to and re-reading. It's also a forum to reach people who use abc notation but aren't interested enough to subscribe to a dedicated list.

> The list on the other hand, is probably the better place for ongoing discussions about current projects.

I can see the point of your distinction, but it's not quite clear to me how the messages could be sorted - it seems to me, the Really Good "permanent" posts tend to arise out of a discussion, rather than appearing out of nowhere. (A selective archiving of a mailing-list, maybe ??)

But I can see how it might be handy for a casual browser who wasn't ready to commit themselves to subscribing to a mailing-list. Personally, I don't find web-based things nearly as convenient for discussion - typing this into Mozilla's text-entry thing is just tedious compared with <insert name of favourite editor>. But I like this one compared with mos, for its absence of demands for logins, passwords, email addresses, etc, it's as straightforward as it could be ...

Basically, my problem is that the list's gone to Yahoo, and I'm not happy about that, given theway that last time I wa signed up to one of their lists they sold my address to the pammers, so I don't want to go near them again. But I don't want to lose contact with ABC discussion, either. Nuisance.
My preference would be for a newsgroup, really, but there doesn't eem to be much enthusiasm for that. And I guess the ove to Yahoo has pre-empted any such possibilities, anyway.

I'll get used to it).

Thanks.

A word of caution

Do not post your email address at this or any other internet forum unless you have a good reason to do so. The entire internet is infected with "spambots" - robots that search pages looking for email addresses. The more places you post your email address, the more spam you'll get.  :-(
